A fine cluster of Hessonite Garnet from the classic location of Faiallo Pass, Italy. The Hessonite forms an intergrown 2.3cm by 1.6cm group of lustrous burgundy coloured crystals. Individual crystals reach a size of 1cm. Internal reflections from the crystals show an orange fire. Many smaller Hessonite crystals are scattered and aggregated over pale green hexagonal crystal books of Clinochlore. Transparent bladed crystals of very light green Diopside are lightly scattered amongst the Clinochlore books (a good specimen to read). The underside of the specimen is also coated in Clinochlore with scattered prismatic crystals of translucent brown Vesuvianite to 0.6cm, plus the odd Hessonite and Diopside crystals. All four minerals overgrow a thick veinlet of lustrous massive Garnet.
