A fascinating pseudomorph from the Philadelphia Academy of Natural Sciences Collection. Hematite has pseudomorphed scalenohedral Calcite, retaining the sharp crystal shape. The crystals measure to 45mm length, with a varying rust orange colour and a granular surface. Broken crystals on the edges reveal hollow interiors lined with fine black Hematite crystals. Donated to the Academy by Dr T. B. Wilson. Very few of these specimens are still in circulation, and this is one of the more aesthetic!
