Tsumeb Mine is famous for pseudomorphs, especially for Malachite after Azurite combinations. This miniature is a fantastic example; well formed lustrous blue Azurite crystals measuring to over 1cm have been largely replaced by deep green Malachite with fine sparkling lustre. Sharply formed individual crystals of translucent deep blue Azurite are in turn perched upon the Malachite. Some of the older pseudomorphed terminations have delicate 'caps' of Azurite, suggesting the two minerals are in chemical equilibrium. The pseudomorphed crystals have formed on a pastel yellow matrix of arsenate species. Beautifully detailed display specimen!
