A stunning large crystal specimen of the rare Aluminium Carbon Hydrate (benzene hexacarboxylate). This strange 'organic compound' has mostly formed in brown coal (lignite) deposits. The specimen we have is from the Csordakuti (lignite) Mine, Hungary. This surprisingly light specimen of Mellite forms a large group of intergrown pyramidal crystals measuring to 5.5cm, with an octahedral aspect to them. The Mellite has an over all mid-brown colour, with many transparent colourless areas. There is some associated white cross-fibrous Calcite. There are contact areas on the specimen, with areas of chipping, which is reflected in the price for this large crystal specimen of Mellite.
