Pyrrhotite was a rare find from this relatively deep Fluorite mine, closed in 1989. The specimen we have from the Cambokeels Mine, Weardale, Cumbria, displays bright metallic yellow platy crystals of Pyrrhotite measuring to5.5 x 3.2cm showing hexagonal crystal extensions around the edges. The crystals of Pyrrhotite have been preferentially overgrown by intergrown translucent creamy crystals of stacked Calcite. Pinky-purple crystals of Fluorite are also to be seen on the specimen, with minor crystals of translucent white Quartz. A great specimen of Pyrrhotite from the mine.
