An impressive single crystal of Quartz from the Jan Coetzee Copper Mine, South Africa. The mine now closed. A large crystal lined cavity was discovered in the early 1990's, measuring to 12 meters (Alpine Cleft Type). The specimen of Quartz we have came from this pocket we are reliably informed. The crystal of Quartz measures to 28cm tall, with five of the prism faces lightly frosted. A sixth face is very lustrous allowing the gemmy interior to be seen, with a slightly smoky quality to the crystal. Nicely terminated by Chlorite included pyramidal faces. Dotted on the prism faces are colourless-white crystals of Calcite, measuring to 0.5cm. A lovely specimen from this little known limited find
