A very pretty specimen of two parallel crystals of Amethystine Quartz to 7cm long, covered by tiny crystals in parallel growth. The well formed Quartz crystals display a central core of light purple Amethyst overgrown by a colourless outer zone. In turn these crystals have many small Amethysts grown out from them like spine. Tiny sugary crystals of drusy translucent Quartz is a later generation of growth, preferentially coating one side of the main crystals. Towards the termination of the largest main crystal appears to be a partial epimorph of the sugary Quartz after a Calcite crystal. A fine display of Amethystine Quartz from Banka Stiavnica, Slovakia - loads to see!
