Rosasite on Malachite Pseudomorph After Azurite

ID: CC2969

A fantastic Pseudomorph rarity from the Tsumeb Mine, Nambia. The Tsumeb is renowned for the variety of pseudomorph specimens that came from the mine. While some pseudomorphs are more abundant, the specimen we have is one of the rarer alterations. The specimen depicts a major Azurite crystal measuring to 6cm completely pseudomophed by Malachite, and a later rare covering of Rosasite. The preexisting Azurite crystal shape has been faithfully retained, with several other Azurite crystal pseudomorphs in attendance. The pseudomorph has a near silky lustre and a fine blue-green to the Rosasite. Exposed areas of the Malachite show a silky radial form replacing the Azurite.  The specimen is preferentially coated on one side in translucent white Smithsonite, with later very scattered micro-crystals of Cerussite, and micro-radial Hemimorphite crystals. The specimen also has areas of yellowish green Duftite, which appears to be the first secondary mineral to have formed on the light coloured Dolomite matrix. A wonderful rare pseudomorph from the Tsumeb Mine.
