A fine Siderite specimen from Wheal Drea (part of Wheal Owles) which can in recent years be ranked alongside Carn Brea, Tincroft and Virtuous Lady Mine for its quality of Siderite specimens. The specimen we have to offer displays elongated light chocolate brown crystals of Siderite to 0.5cm long; with a bow-tie like form and silky luster. The Siderite crystals richly cover a bubbly drusy translucent Quartz, on a matrix of banded glassy smoky Quartz and Goethite. A fine example of Siderite from Wheal Drea. Sadly Wheal Drea has another claim to fame, when in 1893 the workings of the Cargodna section of Wheal Owles were holed through to the flooded Wheal Drea section. This resulted in 20 miners losing their lives due to poor surveying of the workings.
