A bright specimen of Sphalerite with Quartz epimorphs after Fluorite from the Nenthead Mines, Alston, Cumbria, England, an old major Lead-Zinc mining location. The specimen displays an intergrown group of complex lustrous black Sphalerite crystals, with the light reflecting from the many crystal faces. Square section crystals of drusy translucent white Quartz measuring to 1.5cm are seen on and enclose the crystals of Sphalerite. These are a Quartz area that once covered crystals of Fluorite which been dissolved leaving the Quartz as an epimorph of the preexisting Fluorite. The Sphalerite has formed on a disjointed veinlet of Quartz on A dark Limestone matrix. An excellent specimen of Sphalerite from the Nenthead Mines.
