Sphalerite With Quartz

ID: CC5132

An common specimen from the New Glencrieff Mine, Wanlockhead, Scotland. Very few specimens were saved from the sulphide zone of this mine. The specimen we have displays lots of inter grown lustrous crystals of Sphalerite measuring to 3.5cm. Drusy colourless-white crystals of Quartz are largely concentrated on one side of the Sphalerite. A fine example of the species from this Scottish mine last worked in 1959. (some dump processing was undertaken in the 1960s).
