Fluorapatite is a species which always seems to delight, and this thumbnail remains true to form. A single double terminated hexagonal crystal, 1.4 cm between flats and 0.9 cm thick (long) is attached to a few small clusters of opaque white and dark purple Fluorite. This specimen is from a mine in the Municipality of HornĂ Slavkov in Bohemia, Czech Republic, whose pinacoid terminations are concave and built from small, 1 to 4 mm Fluorapatite crystals. The terminations are an olive green-fawn while the short prism faces are candy-plum, giving three-tier colour zoning to the crystal when viewed sideways-on. The crystal is nicely translucent and allows the passage of light through from all directions. A little beauty!
