A rare specimen of Uranospinite from Wheal Basset, Carnkie, Cornwall. Acicular crystals of Uranospinite richly invest a Goethite Gossan matrix. A specimen to be appreciated under a 10x lupe or stereo microscope. Specimens of the Calcium Uranium Arsenate very very seldom come our way from Wheal Basset. The specimen was originally in the Dr T.B.Wilson collection acquired before 1865 under the name Autunite, although the mineral Uranospinite was not described until 1878 from Germany. The specimen then passing into the Academy of Natural Sciences, Philadelphia collection in 1865. Please note that the close up pictures were taken in daylight.
