Well formed crystals of Vanadinite on Phosphohedyphane are the feature of this specimen from the 19th century workings on the Belton Grain Vein, Wanlockhead, Scotland. The Vanadinite forms inter-grown hexagonal crystals with a botryoidal habit, covering areas to 4.5 by 1.3cm. Crystals of beige coloured Vanadinite have developed on a white botryoidal chalky coloured Phosphohedyphane, a fairly new member of the Apatite group. The under side of the specimen is lined with yellow-green Phosphohedyphane, and banded areas of grey-black Mn-Fe oxides are also to be seen. A terrific specimen of Vanadinite from the vein workings.
