QUARTZ Epimorph after FLUORITE

Columbine Mine, La Plata County, Colorado, USA
SPECIMEN DESCRIPTION

Intergrown octahedral crystals of deep peppermint green Fluorite which have been partly to completely dissolved, leaving a coating of white crystalline Quartz as an epimorphic form. The coated Fluorite crystals measure to 1.8 cm on a creamy buff matrix from the Columbine mine in La Plata County, Colorado, USA. This is a most aesthetic specimen with the display surface covered with crisp, well-defined snow-white four-sided pyramids with the odd show of green Fluorite where the outer sucrosic Quartz shell is missing.
