A choice, tightly packed group of metallic black Sphalerite crystals to 2.3 cm cover a deep buff to creamy-tan matrix of small saddle-habit Siderite crystals. From the mining area around Nenthead on Alston Moor in east Cumbria, the Sphalerite crystals are typically squat with complex growth structures on each face and have a silky lustre. Although the specimen is labelled as Siderite, this is likely to be Ankerite. A good cabinet display specimen.
