NATIVE COPPER in CALCITE

Central Mine, Central, Keweenaw Co., Michigan, USA
SPECIMEN DESCRIPTION

Of the many delights associated with the mineral wealth and diversity of Keweenaw Copper Country, specimens of Calcite crystals with inclusions of Native Copper must rank amongst the highlights. This delightful miniature is composed of multiple-aligned, part-scalenohedral, colourless and clear Calcite crystals with sharp pointed terminations containing finely disseminated, untarnished Native Copper. The Copper, in its unoxidised state, remains its natural bright metallic colour, the colour of new copper pipes, which imparts a stunning pinkish-copper glow within the Calcite. Small tufts of oxidised Native Copper emerge from the apex of some Calcite crystals. The largest calcite measures up to 4.2 cm. Beautiful!
