VIVIANITE

Kerch Peninsula, Crimea Peninsula, Crimea Oblast', Ukraine
SPECIMEN DESCRIPTION

Superb crystals of Vivianite have been known from the Kerch Peninsula, Crimea Peninsula, Ukraine for many decades. Other world localities have appeared in more recent times, but the Kerch specimens still have that wonderful feel to them. This small cabinet specimen consists of two intergrown fan-like aggregates of bladed Vivianite crystals - some reaching 4 cm in length - with a small amount of matrix attached. The Vivianite is quite dark coloured until back-lit.
