This is an absolutely stunning German, or indeed European Chalcopyrite of a timeless quality. It is from the Georg mine near Willroth, southeast of Bonn, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany which was an iron mine, but lead-zinc-copper mineralization occurs within the deposit too. The mine was an ancient one and closed in 1965 but some of the Chalcopyrite specimens recovered are amazing. This one is gorgeous, consisting of a flat surface of Siderite upon which several large (up to 1.5 cm), bright, golden, tetragonal crystals of Chalcopyrite sit. These crystals display interesting stepped crystal faces, adding to its beauty. This is Chalcopyrite of the very highest quality and presents perfectly for display. Ex Martin and Michael Günther (1951-2007 & 1956-2021) collection.
