A wonderful 'iron-rose' Hematite from the St. Gotthard Massif in Switzerland. So named because of the rosette-like shape formed by intergrown platy crystals of Specular Hematite, these are an instantly recognizable Alpine classic mineral and this one is from one of the best known regions. Found in alpine clefts in the high mountains, these 'roses' have been known for many centuries and have fascinated mineralogists. This miniature specimen features a 3.8 cm diameter 'rose' sat on top of a small piece of rock matrix. The surface detail on the 'iron-rose' is excellent and the overall size is very good. A super, displayable European classic from the Alps.
