Dreyerite, the tetragonal polymorph of bismuth vanadate, was first described in 1981 in siliceous Permian age rock from Hirschhorn in the Kaiserslautern District, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany, but in poorly crystallized material infilling cavities. It has subsequently been found in well-formed microcrystals at Clara mine but the original material from the Type Locality is much rarer. This small miniature specimen is from the original locality and comes from the magnificent systematic collection assembled by brothers Martin and Michael Günther (1951-2007 & 1956-2021). In it Dreyerite can be seen as powdery yellow-orange material infilling tiny cavities within chert.
