CINNABAR with QUARTZ

SPECIMEN DESCRIPTION

A rare specimen of mercury mineralization from Steinkreuz mine, Katzenbach in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. Two coarsely crystallized areas of Cinnabar to 5 mm across, sit upon tiny red (?Cinnabar) included Quartz crystals lining a cavity. The Cinnabar crystals are deep blood-red to purple in colour with a good lustre but the crystal faces are rounded, or slightly etched. A nice small example of Cinnabar from an unusual locality.
