An interesting large miniature specimen of Cinnabar. A small piece of bedded sedimentary rock is coated on two sides by a bright red powdery coating of Cinnabar, but closer inspection under magnification reveals that the red coating is made up of fine-grained Cinnabar, small glassy Cinnabar microcrystals, and grains of Quartz. The specimen is accompanied by a German label, c. 1990s, which has the locality Lemberg/Pfalz crossed out and replaced with Obermoschel. Adding further to the intrigue, one side of the specimen is coated in microspherules of a deep forest-green mineral resembling Chalcosiderite. A quite distinctive and unusual German Cinnabar specimen.
