A small, but still heavy section through a radiating nodular mass of Hematite of the variety known a "Kidney Ore" from the famous Hodbarrow mine near Millom. The botryoidal outer surface has a lovely slightly bumpy surface just like the skin of a lizard. A very tactile piece with good provenance. Hodbarrow mine was, of course, Britain's biggest iron mine, producing over 25 million tons of high-grade ore.
