A dense, fist-sized botryoidal mass of Hematite, variety Kidney Ore. The specimen is very tactile and has been well-handled all around, possibly even polished in places. It shows a nice, classic, smooth botryoidal surface beneath which the compact layers of fibrous Hematite descend broadly to a central point which has been worn smooth. Comes with a small handwritten label specifying the provenance as Mouzell mines, near Furness. These mines produced several million tons of iron ore during their lifetime, but specimens from there are rare. A nice example.
