SZENICSITE

Jardinera No. 1 Mine, Inca de Oro, Chañaral Province, Atacama Region, Chile
$900€756£661$900
SPECIMEN DESCRIPTION

A fine miniature specimen of the rare copper molybdate hydroxide mineral, Szenicsite, from the Type Locality at Jardinera No. 1 mine, Inca de Oro, Chañaral Province, Atacama Region, Chile. The specimen consists of an almost solid aggregate of dark green platy Szenicsite crystals with just minor weathered gossanous matrix as coatings. The largest Szenicsite crystal measures an impressive 32 mm across but all have very irregular crystal edges, not from damage, but unusual growth as is typical of this species. A really rather rich specimen of this extremely rare mineral which is only known in good crystals from this one occurrence made during the 1990s. The accompanying documentation shows that it was originally purchased at Tucson in 1994 - from the original find - and has the lovely addition of Terry Szenics' signature on the back of the original dealer label.
