Ferrihollandite is a relatively new species, named in 2013 during a reassessment of the Hollandite Supergroup. In a twist, it was discovered that the Type specimen of Hollandite from India is in fact Ferrihollandite. Despite this Ferrihollandite remains a rather rare species in comparison to pure barium-dominant Hollandite. As part of the study to reclassify Hollandite specimens it was also shown that historic material from Ultevis, Jokkmokk, Norrbotten County, Sweden is also iron-bearing falling into the Ferrihollandite category. This miniature specimen from Ultevis is actually from the worldwide Fluorite collection of Arvid Pasto, but is really a representative purple Fluorite - conveniently associated with richly crystallized black acicular Ferrihollandite.
