Shergottite - Ca-rich Achondrite Martian Meteorite

Zagami Martian meteorite, Faskari, Katsina, Nigeria
$1750€1470£1286$1750
SPECIMEN DESCRIPTION

The Zagami Martian meteorite fell to Earth on October 3, 1962, landing close to the farmer who found it near Faskari in Nigeria. Compositionally it is a Ca-rich Achondrite, known as Shergottite, and because of its link to Mars these are one of the most sought after types of meteorite. Achondrites are type of stony meteorite, therefore are much less dense than iron meteorites. This 2 g thumbnail-sized slice has two parallel cut surfaces, one straight and smooth, the other uneven where the cut was not finished. Martian meteorites represent less than 0.5 % of all known meteorite fall on Earth, making this an extremely rare type.
