Chalcedony ps. after FLUORITE

Wheal Mary Ann, Menheniot, Liskeard District, Cornwall, England
$400€336£294$400
SPECIMEN DESCRIPTION

As far as Cornish pseudomorphs go, the Quartz var. Chalcedony after octahedral Fluorite crystals from Wheal Mary Ann are probably the most famous. This fine miniature from Malcolm Southwood's collection is nice because rather than forming a combined layer, or bed of octahedral crystals, the pseudomorphs here are individually spaced out or clustered in small groups allowing their full detail to be studied. A couple of the octahedral crystals have damaged tips, but these reveal how the pseudomorphs are made up of distinct layers of Chalcedony. Individually the crystals reach 1.7 cm across. Ex J.R. Trantom collection (with labels) and collected by D. Kershaw in July 1976.
