This spectacular, fan-like spray of pale blue bladed Baryte is from Jebel Ouichane in north-eastern Morocco, source of some of the world's finest blue Baryte crystals. This area was known for fine blue Baryte in the 1970s but was forgotten until about 2012, when large quantities of specimens appeared on the market. This superb, but fragile cabinet specimen, was extracted in about 2012, and displays a lovely pale blue to blue-grey colour dependent on lighting. The crystals are complex elongated blades developed parallel to each other as layers in the 'fan'. There is some damage to the tips of crystals in one layer of the 'fan', but many of the layers are pristine and extremely glossy. Ex Nick Hawes collection.
