MALACHITE ps. after AZURITE

Sacramento Pit, Sacramento Hill, Bisbee, Cochise County, Arizona, USA

SPECIMEN DESCRIPTION

What a classy piece of Arizona mining history. This superb display specimen of Malachite pseudomorphous after perfect monoclinic Azurite crystals is not only in immaculate condition, but is remarkably over 100 years old. It was collected from Sacramento mine at Bisbee, Arizona by none other than John V. Mitchell when he was the boss at the mine, c. 1918. This was, well before such Malachite pseudomorphs had been discovered at Tsumeb, or in Morocco, and so would have been an incredible oddity at that time. The crystals are all in top condition, with no damage to the main display crystals, which reach 2 cm in length, the finest being a complete, doubly-terminated monoclinic crystal. The matrix is ironstone with the Malachite pseudomorphs sat prominently upon the surface. Ex Nick Hawes collection.
