AZURITE on MALACHITE

Khanong open pit, Sepon Mine, Vilabouly District, Savannakhet Province, Laos
SPECIMEN DESCRIPTION

Exceptional specimens of Azurite crystals on Malachite were discovered in Khanong open pit at Sepon mine, Laos in 2015 and slightly earlier. This fine display specimen from this occurrence is largely a mass of beautiful velvety green Malachite arched into a kind of geode shape with large, deep blue and intensely glossy bladed, or tooth-like Azurite crystals growing inwards, and reaching up to 1.4 cm across in size. Many of the Azurite crystals are internally replaced with Malachite, some completely as pseudomorphs. Smaller unaltered Azurite crystals coat the centre of the cavity upon Malachite. This is an extremely fine example from this find, extremely displayable and in top condition. Ex Nick Hawes collection.
