Barrerite is a very rare sodium zeolite which was first described in 1974 from Sardinia and named for Richard Maling Barrer (1910-1996) who had a particular interest in the chemistry of zeolites. However, the richest specimens of this rare zeolite are from Rocky Pass, a tiny island, or islet, alongside Kuiu Island in Alaska. It is an extremely remote locality. The Barrerite crystals from there are extremely well-formed and look just like classic Stilbite crystals. This superb large miniature specimen from David Hardman's collection is labelled as from Kuiu Island, but it is almost certainly from Rocky Pass islet, as many specimens got labelled as from the larger neighbouring island. It is completely coated in excellent creamy-white platy Barrerite crystals with a pearlescent lustre. An extremely fine example of this rare zeolite.
